Positioned as the first “Galleria Style” community in Spain, Hines purchased Diagonal Mar, an 84-acre site along the Mediterranean Sea. This large-scale mixed-use project consists of three hotels, three Class A office buildings, a convention center, a retail and entertainment center and residential high-rise complexes. Surrounding the project is a 35-acre park designed by the late Spanish architect Enric Miralles, which features his steel sculptures and numerous waterscapes. The residential portion of the development sold out quickly. Meeks + Partners designed Illa del Llac, two stunning 22-story towers linked by nine- and 14-story buildings, which also contain two levels of underground parking. The initial phase comprises 380 new residential seafront units with the remaining 1,987 units to be built in five independent phases. It also includes common areas with two swimming pools, children’s play area, two paddle tennis courts, a community room, common gardens, a gymnasium, and a parking garage.
